say hi.. in Thai! :-) :-) :-)

Few days ago I visited many memorable places in Bangkok. No doubt Thailand is a place which brings you joy, makes you comfortable, appeals you, be witches you and at night, intoxicate you! This is not the characteristics of Thailand, these are the qualities of Thai people who make it so interesting and inviting with a simple tool called ‘smile’.

Miles of smiles, that is Thailand for you(wow, good line eh?)

Thais are a real epitome of hospitality, gentleness, politeness, friendliness and whatever words come to your mind when you are happy and satisfied with life. πŸ™‚

Nothing is great about them. They are simple. They follow simple principles of life. The important thing about them is, they DO follow those simple principles that are so difficult to follow. Thais have strange relationship with ice. Yes. Being a hot country, there is great amount of usage of ice in their drinks. It’s not about using the ice, but its about breaking the ice before they serve you the drink. It is the same when they look at any stranger. It hardly takes few micro seconds to break ice and talk to strangers, or to help them. My friend and I was talking about the longest name of the city, that is Bangkok. It’s original name is:-Krung Thep Mahanakhon Amon Rattanakosin Mahinthara Yuthaya Mahadilok Phop Noppharat Ratchathani Burirom Udomratchaniwet Mahasathan Amon Phiman Awatan Sathit Sakkathattiya Witsanukam Prasit. My friend was translating it to me as I was very curious. It contains many sanskrit words if you observe it carefully. There was this Thai guy who was watching us discussing about it. In no time, he came to us and started helping us to understand the meaning of the name. In no time, ice was broken and drink was served in the form of help! The only problem was I could not understand him. πŸ™‚

English-speaking Thai are considerably low in Thailand. There is a reason behind it. Thailand was the only country in South-East Asia that was never colonized. Why? Because they had good relationship with each and every country that was trying to rule the world. Who would reject a friendly hand of Thailand. The King of Thailand took pains to visit all the countries to maintain healthy friendly relationship with them. See, again the breaking of ice and serve with smile theory coming into picture. Simple principles but never followed. πŸ™‚

Their natural politeness clearly reflects in their language. Politeness in Thai has nothing to do with age, position or power. It is about mutual respect and connectivity with other fellow human beings. I always see people smiling and laughing when they talk. oops they always smile whenever they are awake. I am sure they do have that smiling face when they sleep. I think they avoid talking about depressing and controversial subjects. Or they do it with a smile on their face. πŸ™‚

Having smile on the face does not mean they don’t have difficulties in life. They are not Gods that they remain happy and satisfied with their life, always. They are ‘same same’ as any other human beings. The difference is how they handle their sorrows. I appreciate their quality of hiding the sulking face and have that smile on their face. That is why I said, to smile, is the most difficult thing. That too in the time of crisis. This way, they don’t spread negativity. There is no spill over effect. Do they need an ornament to wear? πŸ™‚

The ornament that they are wearing is pure 24 carat. The only ornament that a rich and a poor can wear and can afford. The ornament that you can wear all the time. And in spite of having it with everybody all the time, it is still priceless, and rare in the whole world! whoa! πŸ™‚

If they try to compel the whole world to follow their path, there wont be any war. Peace will prevail. Ronald McDonald has always got a smile on his face. But this smile is different. It is to attract children. Smile of selfish reasons. That is a plastic smile. Ronald has a reason to smile. Thais don’t need a reason to smile or spread happiness. It is the part of their life. It will take ages for Ronald to learn this. Lets see how many years it will take him to understand that Wars, powers, dominance over the world are nothing, if your citizens are dying with obesity or with terrorism. If your people don’t have a smile, it is a failed state, failed government. That is why the King in Thailand is called Ram. πŸ™‚

Outside Thailand, I see people smiling only when they are photographed. Hope you are photographed each and every moment in life. Hope that smile is not photographic smile, but the natural one. πŸ™‚

Hope you don’t smile because you are photographed, but you are photographed because you smile!

I think the above line explains the smile of Ronald McDonald and that of Thais! πŸ™‚ Let the whole world speak Thai. We don’t need bald eagle or dove to spread peace. We just need 4 words to say.. Say Hi, In Thai
